It was a challenge to assemble with the angles. Brads, pin nails, and pocket screws were used instead of attempting to clamp the various pieces.

Note to self: Don't let the large piece o the right get bumped an pivot. It makes for a wonky angled piece that you can't really hide.

IMG_6382.jpg Modified: 1/20/19, 9:22 PM I altered the original plan so that there is only one layer of plywood between modules. And, I used solid white pine for the front ledge instead of plywood so that I didn't have to hide the long, ugly, plywood edge. The solid wood also let me round over the edges for a little more safety.

IMG_6383.jpg Modified: 1/20/19, 9:22 PM The horizontal piece is glued and secured using pocket screws from the bottom side. The front ledge is glued and nailed using my brad nailer. Note the dado in the back edge of the end pieces to allow an inset back panel. Another modification to the original plan was to use a piece of 1/4 inch plywood as a back panel.

IMG_6454.jpg Modified: 3/7/19, 5:56 PM After final assembly. Since a "natural" finish was requested, I trimmed edges of the raw plywood with a 1/4 inch thick rounded slat of solid pine, glued and pinned in place.

IMG_6457.jpg Modified: 3/7/19, 5:58 PM The finish is Zinsser Bulls Eye Amber Shellac thinned to a 1 1/2 pound cut and sprayed with a Husky HVLP gravity feed spray gun. I did a very light sanding with a 320 grit sanding sponge after the final coat of shellac and applied a coat of SC Johnson Paste Wax. Not the most rugged finish in the world, but very kid safe.
